Trump granted investigation of possible FBI campaign surveillance
President Donald Trump demanded on Monday that the Department of Justice open an investigation against the individuals who are examining questionable procedures of his staff during the 2015-16 presidential campaign.
Any potential government conflict didn’t stop the president from calling out members of the DOJ to take action.
“I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes — and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!” Trump tweeted on Sunday.
True to his word, Trump on Monday convinced DOJ officials to instruct Inspector General Michael Horowitz to expand an existing probe into alleged Russian interference of the presidential campaign and potentially uncover improper actions by an apparent FBI mole placed on his staff.
In an effort to review classified material and spark the new examination, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly will coordinate a meeting with National Intelligence Director Dan Coats and officials from the FBI and DOJ, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.
