Chapman Partnership of Miami recently accepted $118,000 in grant money from SunTrust Foundation to fund its “Empower You” initiative, steering participants toward self-sufficiency through skills-based employment.
“We’re proud to support the Empower You career readiness program since its objective to make self-sufficiency possible aligns with our focus on financial confidence,” SunTrust Foundation President Stan Little said.
The new program will begin as a one-year pilot in four-week segments with SunTrust staff acting as volunteer instructors in weekly sessions focusing on workplace readiness for participating individuals. The grant will help cover curriculum development, job search costs, childcare and consultants.
SunTrust’s Florida division President Scott Cathcart conveyed enthusiasm for the project, stating that the firm looks forward to “helping residents in our community develop their self-esteem and bridge the gap between homelessness and sustainable employment.”
Chapman officials expressed gratitude in kind for the support.
“We’re humbled by the generosity of the SunTrust Foundation, whose donation will equip our residents with the knowledge and skills to achieve self-sufficiency,” board Chairman Carlos Fernandez-Guzman said. “The support … allows us to expand resources and assist residents to reach their goals each year.”
As the private sector partner of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, Chapman Partnership helps the poor and homeless population in the greater Miami area with emergency housing, health and day care services, meals, job training and placement.
