SunTrust has named a new general counsel and corporate executive vice president, Ellen Fitzsimmons. 

She is replacing Raymond Fortin, who has retired. 

Fitzsimmons will be reporting to Bill Rogers, CEO and chairman of SunTrust, and will be serving as the corporate secretary of the SunTrust Board of Directors.

"Ellen Fitzsimmons has a strong business and legal background in addition to experience working with regulatory agencies and ensuring high standards for compliance and client service," Rogers said. "She will provide valuable counsel and insight to SunTrust as we both grow our business and fulfill our purpose of advancing financial well-being."

Fitzsimmons was the executive vice president of law, public affairs general counsel and corporate secretary for CSK Corp. before coming to SunTrust.

As for Fortin, Rogers said his service with SunTrust will not be forgotten.

"His counsel to our board and leadership team has contributed to consecutive years of performance improvement and strengthened relationships with many of our constituents," Rogers said. "His commitment to our clients and communities will have lasting results for years to come."
