As the time for tax filing is right around the corner, Edward Jones wants to help its clients make sure that they have all of the information that they need to make the process as quick and painless as possible.
Below is a checklist of the items needed.
Expenses and deductions
- Gifts to charity (both cash and noncash)
- Child care expenses
- Personal property tax receipts
- Health savings account (HSA) distributions or expenses
- HSA contributions
- Traditional IRA contributions
- Higher education fees: Form 1098-T
- Margin interest expense
- Investment expense records
- Medical and dental expenses
- Deductible retirement plan contributions
- Alimony paid
- Forms may include 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, 1099-OID, 1099-MISC and 1099-R
- Roth conversion reporting: Form 1099-R
- Same forms for any children or dependents under age 24 with income (earned or unearned)
- Mortgage interest: Form 1098
- Sale of your home or other real estate: Form 1099-S
- Real estate tax receipts
- Form W-2 for 2017
- Unemployment compensation and state tax refunds: Form 1099-G
- Miscellaneous income, including rent and royalties: Form 1099-MISC
- Partnership, S corporation and trust income: Schedule K-1
- Pensions, annuities, IRAs and qualified plans: Form 1099-R
- Social Security or railroad retirement benefits: Form SSA-1099 or RRB-1099
